Neo-Classical Shred

One of the best styles to showcase the Electric guitars abilities, Neo Classical shred is the monstrous lovechild of classical music and heavy metal. Yngwie Malmsteen, Richie Blackmore, Paul Gilbert and Michael Romeo are some of my favourite classically influenced shredders. But there are many more for you to explore!

Whilst I don't consider myself a neo-classical player, I do dabble and have put together an example song utilising some of the key pillars of this style.

The Harmonic Minor is key for this style. The Natural Minor with a raised 7th (1 2 b3 4 5 b6 7) gives it a dark edge that is unmistakable. And then Pair that with the Diminished Arpeggios and you most of the way there to a Neo-Classical hit.
